Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (or Cot Death as it is known in some countries), is the biggest recognized cause of death in babies under the age of 12 months. This harrowing condition happens while the child is sleeping. Unfortunately, so far there is no known cure, or even a known explanation in fact, as to why some babies are affected by the syndrome while others aren’t. The fact is though that over 2,500 infants die in America annually from cot death.

Vaginal yeast and vaginal herpes share similar symptoms. Vaginal yeast is very common among women. Actually, 3/4 of women have one vaginal yeast episode in their lives and half of them have several episodes. Vaginal herpes or genital herpes is less common but rapidly spreading.

About 25% of all pregnant women have genital herpes and 20% of the population has genital herpes. I believe these figures are underrated. Women are more likely to get genital herpes than men and genital herpes contamination in the US increased by 30% from the late 70’s to the early 90’s and increases on a daily basis.

Throughout the world, people are spending over $550 billion on pharmaceuticals. In the United States, we are spending over $250 billion on medication. Despite having a fraction of the world’s population, the US is purchasing nearly half of all prescription and non-prescription drugs.

Generic medications now account for 60% of all medication that are dispensed. While prescription dispensing overall increased 5% in 2005, the generic dispensing growth has jumped 21%. The share in the dollar market is significantly lower for generics because the cost is much less then the brand name drugs. Many generics are priced up to 80% less than the equivalent brand name medications. The reason is competition. A brand name drug has no competitors and the manufacturer can therefore set the highest price that the market can bear.

Dental health activities are designed to encourage good dental health practices and to help avoid dental cavities, gum diseases and oral cancer. State dental health programs are the primary entities responsible for conducting the core activities with regard to oral health conditions within different states. Local health departments in association with the dental community and public/private schools also arrange various dental health activities. The promotion of dental sealants and monitoring of the fluoride content in drinking water are examples of disease prevention activities. The American Dental Association provides a great deal of resources for dental health activities.
