Acupuncture and Pimples

Chinese medicine is unique in its totally different approach to treatment compared to western standards. The use of acupuncture for pimples evidences this difference.

A pimple is a general term given to several types of skin disorders that usually result from clogged pores. The most severe forms of the condition can lead to large and painful cysts that often leave scarring. Aside from this, the condition rarely poses any other health threat. It does cause a bit of a self esteem problem especially in younger people. Although the lesions often appear on the back and chest areas, the face is the most common area for acne outbreaks.

Diet and Lifestyle Recommendations and Fish Oil as a Supplement

Just recently the American Heart Association (June of 2006) released new diet and lifestyle recommendations. The recommendations intended for healthy Americans age 2 and older replace the guidelines issued in 2000. Now recommended are:

• Further reducing saturated and trans fatty acids in the diet;
• Minimizing the intake of food and beverages with added sugars;
• Emphasizing physical activity and weight control;
• Eating a diet rich in vegetables, fruits and whole-grain foods;
• Avoiding use of an exposure to tobacco products; and
• Achieving and maintaining healthy cholesterol, blood pressure and blood glucose levels.

What are Antioxidants? Part 3

In Parts 1 and 2, antioxidants and plant phytochemicals were defined and the process of how they protect our cells from “free radicals” was described. Researchers are discovering more health benefits from these plant substances every year. Some good food sources of common antioxidants and phytochemicals and their importance to our health were presented, such as the vitamins C and E, alpha lipoic acid, the plant phytochemicals carotenoids, flavonoids, soy isoflavones, catechins, and the mineral selenium.
Here in Part 3, food sources rich in antioxidants with potent anti-inflammatory properties are presented.
